I recently spent a weekend in Miami where I explored, rummaged vintage stores and gained inspiration everywhere from food trucks to one very cool camouflage-covered survival store. But the Miami area that makes me most excited is the Wynwood Arts District, a Midtown neighborhood that is home to dozens upon dozens of galleries, studios, exhibition spaces and museums. And within the District are the Wynwood Walls, a former industrial complex that was turned into a literal blank canvas for street artists in 2009. Today, major contemporary and street artists including Ryan McGinness, Os Gemeos and Kenny Scharf have used the warehouse walls and doors to make fantastically colorful, splashy street art that is free for all to enjoy. These are a few of my favorite shots from my day at the walls, right down to vibrantly colored spray paint in a local art store.
